Have you always wanted to write a program to help other Game Masters prep for a game, but never did, because of all the work required? Do you wish you could write programs to generate NPCs, monsters, taverns, -- and almost anything else -- that would be flexible to use and easy for others to modify for their own use? If so, GMHT: Game Master Helper's Toolkit may be for you! This toolkit is a Java library, which makes it easy to write programs that create things for GMs. It contains basic classes for you to use (like Dice, Tables, etc.), but also classes to make it easy to format your creations in plain text or HTML, and give your programs good user interfaces. It also has an XML interface, so non-programers can take advantage of it's power, too! I have just released version 0.5 of GMHT, and it is clearly pre-alpha release quality. You should only use this release only if you are willing to experiment with immature software. But if you are: the rewards are great. The current release includes the basic library, some utility programs, and some example programs. There is also some documentation. Source and binaries are included. GMHT will work with Java 1.2 and 1.3, but not 1.1. The home page: http://joshualevy.tripod.com/gmht/index.htm contains links to a readme file, a quick tutorial, in addition to the full release in jar format. GMHT also comes with several example program which you might find useful in their own right: stalls (Generates stalls and sales for a 1920s Arab Bazzar.) horses (Generates horses for your standard fantasy adventure.) oblique stratigies (Brian Eno's Brain Storming Ideas) Joshua Levy joshualevy@yahoo.com
